OOG cargo check software: indicative fit per piece

Moviqo's OOG cargo check reads a package list, totals pieces, weight, cbm and freight tons, and gives each piece an indicative fit, from a 20' GP to an open top, a flat rack or breakbulk, before you ask a line for space.

What it does

What does the cargo check do?

It runs under the package rows of every RFQ and checks each piece against typical container sizes, door openings and payloads, so the desk knows what the cargo needs before the first vendor mail.

  • Totals for pieces, gross and net weight, cbm and freight tons (W/M), and the heaviest piece
  • An indicative fit per piece: 20' or 40' GP, 40' HC, open top or flat rack
  • Over-width per side and over-height on open-top and flat-rack pieces
  • Breakbulk and heavy lift called out, with the reason
  • The same pieces and fits on the RFQ page and in the vendor rate request
Illustration with sample data: five package rows checked for container fit, from a 20' GP to breakbulk heavy lift. Fits are indicative, not a booking.

Input

How do you enter or paste a colli list?

Type the package rows (description, packing, quantity, length, width and height in metres, gross and net weight per piece in kg) or paste a colli list, packing list or mail table straight from Excel. Moviqo shows a preview of what it read before it fills the rows.

  • Sizes in mm, cm or m, converted to metres
  • Headers in English or German, such as Länge, Breite, Höhe and Gewicht
  • European numbers read correctly: "16.400 kg" is 16,400 kg
  • Packing such as crate, case, skid, pallet, bundle, coil, drum, frame or saddle

Limits

Which container limits does the check use?

Typical inside sizes, door openings and payloads for the 20' and 40' GP, the 40' HC, the 20' and 40' open top and the 20' and 40' flat rack. A closed box takes a piece through a door of about 2.34 m by 2.28 m (2.58 m high on a 40' HC); over-width starts beyond the 2.438 m outside width; and a flat rack takes about 31 t on a 20' and 40 t on a 40'.

The values differ by line and by box, so treat every fit as a first check, not a booking, and confirm with the line. The full table, with the decision step by step and six worked pieces, is in the guide OOG cargo: flat rack, open top or breakbulk?

Over-dimension

How are over-width and over-height worked out?

Over-width (OW) is measured per side beyond a container's 2.438 m outside width. A transformer 3.30 m wide is (3.30 − 2.438) ÷ 2 = 0.43 m over each side: OW 43 cm per side.

Over-height (OH) is measured above the height the box takes: 2.35 m on an open top, 2.23 m on a 20' flat rack and 1.95 m on a 40' flat rack. The same transformer, 2.72 m high on a 40' flat rack, is OH 77 cm.

Length and width may be swapped to find a fit; the height stays as given. The guide OOG cargo: flat rack, open top or breakbulk? works through six pieces step by step.

Breakbulk

When does a piece become breakbulk or heavy lift?

When no container takes it, the check calls it breakbulk and says why: the weight is over a flat rack's payload, the piece is longer than a 40' flat rack, or it is wider or higher than flat racks take. Any piece of 40 t or more is also marked heavy lift.

  • REASON · WEIGHT

    Over a flat rack's payload

About 31 t on a 20' flat rack and 40 t on a 40'. Some lines run heavier-rated flat racks, so ask before ruling one out, and price breakbulk alongside.

  • REASON · LENGTH

Longer than a 40' flat rack

A 40' flat rack takes about 11.65 m. A longer piece is called breakbulk, whatever its width or weight.

  • REASON · WIDTH OR HEIGHT

Wider or higher than flat racks take

About 4.3 m wide or 4.0 m high on a flat rack. Beyond that the piece goes in the hold or on deck as breakbulk.

Each call-out names the reason, so the vendor mail can say why. Worked pieces with their numbers are in the OOG guide.

Results

Where do the results go?

The totals fill Packages, Gross weight and Volume on the RFQ, and the cargo type is set to what the pieces call for: heavy lift, breakbulk, or ODC when a piece needs an open top or a flat rack. The RFQ page and the vendor rate request show the same pieces, fits and totals, so every line you ask sees the same cargo.

Questions

OOG cargo check: common questions

Is the cargo check's fit a booking confirmation?

No. It is an indicative first check from typical container sizes and payloads. Lines differ by box and by service, so confirm the equipment, lashing and any over-dimension with the line before you quote.

Does the check turn a piece to find a fit?

Yes, on its base only: length and width may be swapped to find a fit, but the height always stays as given.

Which units can I paste into the package rows?

Sizes in millimetres, centimetres or metres, converted to metres, and weights in kilograms or tonnes, with European thousands separators read correctly. Headers can be in English or German.

How does the check calculate freight tons?

For each piece it takes the higher of the weight in tonnes and the volume in cbm, then adds the pieces up. That is the W/M basis breakbulk is priced on.

Does the check replace a lashing or stowage plan?

No. It tells you which equipment to ask for. Securing, lifting points, centre of gravity and stowage are for the line and the surveyor to confirm.
